“My heart still beats like a drum” – Joseph Wilson
When I attended football games at my alma mater, Howard University, I looked forward to seeing the marching band perform. This talented group of young men and women were full of energy, creativity, and passion. I especially liked it when the drumline performed. Their intense rhythms always drove the crowd into a frenzy.
But what happens when that rhythm gives your life purpose and meaning?
The short documentary Concrete Royalty explores this question. The film profiles Joseph Wilson, a determined 16-year-old snare drummer in Brooklyn United Marching Band, who uses music to cope with life and expand his horizons.
