Singer/songwriter Lanita Smith grew up in Fayetteville, NC where she learned to love music while sitting next to the piano player at church. That experience led her to take private lessons and hone her skills as a pianist. Smith later moved to Memphis, TN where she expanded her skill set to include the violin, saxophone, guitar, vocal performance, and songwriting.
Smith’s talents were formally acknowledged when she won the Guitar Center Singer Songwriter competition. That victory led to collaborations with Don Was, Colbie Caillat, German American Idol judge Mandy Capistro, James Gadsen, and more.
Smith released her debut album EP Listen to Your Heartbeat in December 2015 to critical acclaim. Her first single, “I Love You,” takes listeners on an emotional journey about breaking up, cheating, and holding on to whatever love you have left. The song, produced by Don Was, showcases Smith’s fantastic voice and her deep lyricism.
