As a native Houstonian, I’m always eager to tell everyone about what makes my city great. Our food is delicious, our music is diverse, our visual artists are world-class, and our residents are some of the most stylish people in the country (yes, even with our cowboy hats and boots). On January 30th, Houston will show the world what we have to offer at one special event – Houston Press Artopia, a celebration of Houston’s vibrant arts and culture scene.
Over 30 visual artists will display their paintings, drawings, designs, and photographs at Winter Street Studios. You will be amazed by their talent and the poignancy of their art.
If you’ve read Mocha Man Style for a while, you know that I love to cover independent musicians (See the series: 5 Indie Artists You Should Hear). That’s why I’m excited by the concert line-up at Artopia. Live music will be performed by Catch Fever, Say Girl Say, and my friend Gio Chamba (check out out his song “Planeta Cumbia” below).
There will also be fashion shows featuring designers ModChic, Samo Dinero, and Pardon My Fash-Uhn.
But Artopia is more than a big party. It is an event with a cause. The Houston Press will award over $6,000 in grants to local artists. These Mastermind Award winners will be featured as the Cover Story on the Houston Press, and will be honored at Artopia on January 30th.
If you love Houston’s art, music, fashion and food, then you must attend Artopia. Hurry and get your tickets today because this event is expected to sell out.
